Seven Years!

This weekend Lance and I celebrated our seventh anniversary. We went out to dinner (with Rowan in tow) to Colony Grill and had a wonderful dinner. Rowan was surprisingly well behaved and it was actually quite a pleasant time!

We had "family dinner" with Trang and Mike on Sunday and Rowan and Nathan loved playing together! Yesterday Rowan and I played in the pool at the Y and today we went to the Pottery Barn story time.

Of course, something had to go wrong. On the way there, I actually knocked over our mailbox. I was looking out for the garbage can which the garbage truck set slightly into our driveway. I missed the garbage can, but hit the mailbox. Thankfully our sweet neighbor, Mr. White, brought over his post digger and reset the mailbox. It is now approximately 2-feet tall, but it will suffice until we get out to get a new post. The steroids are finally starting to work on this crazy allergic reaction! I actually wore short sleeves today and am hoping for a decent night's rest tonight.

Sprout's First Appearance

Today we had our first prenatal visit with Dr. Meek. We were able to get an ultrasound to see little Sprout for the first time. Such a little butter bean! She estimated my due date at February 24. It really feels like it's real now! Initally I was so shocked that it didn't seem like reality at all! But, I'm going to be a mom of two and Rowan is going to be a big sister!

I'm feeling relatively well--just a bit tired and quite hungry. Unfortunately I've also broken out in a rash all over my body. I am itching like crazy and can't sleep because I just can't stop scratching. My throat and neck are swelling up. So, I'm on a very large dose of steroids in hopes of clearing this up. I'm quite miserable and it's hard to keep up with Rowan on such little sleep.

We've spent a lot of time playing in the sprinkler, going on walks and playing inside. I'm guessing the sun and pool chemicals aren't good for this rash, so I'm trying to avoid both, much to Rowan's chagrin. We're doing lots of reading and climbing. I can see how easy it would be to just turn on the TV, but she hasn't watched it yet, so I'm hoping to keep it off for a while longer.

Tomorrow we'll have library time and a playdate with some friends from my moms group at church. It's a pool party, but I'll be avoiding the pool.

The rest of the week

So, I'm realizing that posting to this site every day is an unlikely goal. So, I will try to publish every few days or so. I'm sure I'll end up missing many mundane details and possibly some big ones as well, but I'm trying!

Tuesday was a nice day. We went swimming in the morning and then met Lance for lunch at Brixx Pizza where I had their delicious salad with salmon. Rowan was quite well behaved and loved showing off for all of Lance's coworkers. Dwight gave Rowan a gold dollar for her piggy bank which is when I realized that poor Rowan doesn't have a piggy bank. What kind of mom am I? Off to find Rowan a piggy bank...

Wednesday Rowan had her 15-month checkup complete with several shots. Since I'm terrified of the MMR, we held off on that one for now. After a nice morning nap, we spent the afternoon swimming.

Thursday we had Jumping Beans at the library in the morning. Rowan decided she wanted to hang on my leg while the other kids danced about. I think the shots made her a bit cranky and clingy. I can't say that I blame her. In the afternoon we played in Rowan's big sprinkler and she had so much fun, but got more mosquito bites than she has room for on her little legs.

Today was a long day. We played outside and got very sweaty in the morning. Then, after morning nap we were all excited to have a playdate with Nathan. But, the quick errand I had to run at the bank turned out to take 2 and a half hours. I was almost in tears when I left because I couldn't think of any possible ways to keep Rowan occupied at a bank for that amount of time. I'm sure all of the tellers enjoyed the continuous Ring Around the Rosie and Rowan's obsession with Mommy's stripes and Rowan's flowers. So, that was the majority of our afternoon. When Lance finally got home at 6:30, I got dinner ready for Rowan and left for a moment of silence (which is writing this blog).

It's seemed like quite a long week and Lance will be working all day Saturday, so I'll be looking forward to having all of us together on Sunday.

Back Home

We're finally home! After an exhausting travel day on Saturday and a Sunday spent unpacking and grocery shopping, I finally feel like we are back home. We had a wonderful trip to Tupper Lake, New York. We stayed in a lakefront house with Grandma and Grandpa Pellow, Aunt Monica, Uncle Robert and Hope and Grace. Rowan loved playing with her cousins all day. She took amazingly long naps and Lance and I both took the opportunity to read books and catch up with family. Rowan loved playing in the sand and chasing her cousins around. The water was a little chilly and she wasn't a huge fan. We couldn't have asked for a better location, though the house itself had some interesting issues such as mice scampering about and a dead chipmunk found in the back of the refrigerator. Rowan learned two new words--"bubbles" and "no". I had really hoped she would hold off on learning "no" for a while as she is now fond of expressing her displeasure in everything from diaper changes to sitting in her booster seat. She loved to feed the ducks, though I'm pretty sure she ate more bread than she shared.
